My dear Crazy Lady, It is my job to help patrons such as yourself with the computers. This fact does not make me a mind reader! You can make noises of consternation (which nobody finds as cute as you do) or stare at me from across the library (as if I can see you from my absurdly tall desk) all day, but I still will not know that you have a question unless you ASK me. I refuse to walk all the way across the library to check on you every time you make a noise like a mouse getting stepped on; you do that so much that it would be more energy efficient for me to sit with you for an hour and a half while you try to figure out how to use a web browser, which I also refuse to do because hellooooo I have shit to do! PowerPoint presentations to make! Programs to plan! Rowdy teenagers to yell at! Either shut up and figure it out yourself, ask me a few specific questions (using words, not squeals and grunts), or sign up for one of our computer classes. Signed, The librarian who pretended that she found you amusing P.S. Quit giggling like a valley girl. You are in your sixties. Have a little pride for gosh sakes. | | Friday, February 2nd, 2007 | | 8:39 am |
The Saga Continues....
So, the glass people finally came out to my place of work to fix my car window the other day. The problem was, when he finished up, the guy left the stupid dome light on! I left work several hours, happy because i didn't have to drive home with the wind whistling in my ears, only to discover the battery was dead and the car wouldn't start! And almost everyone was gone from the building, and I had to have two complete strangers push my car down the hill so I could pop the clutch and get it started... It definitely hasn't been the best week of my life. | | Wednesday, January 31st, 2007 | | 8:46 am |
I am sure most of you have heard about the fiasco with the car by now. Basically, Nate parked the car on a side street on Sunday night, and on Monday (my day off) I was going to go buy a futon mattress, but once in the car I noticed it was a bit drafty. On closer examination, I saw the entire back passenger seat window was smashed out and lying in pieces on the back seat. Nothing, however, was missing. They went through all of our stuff, but decided our CDs (which were the only semi-valuable things in there) were not worth stealing. So I called the insurance company and the cops and tried to get it all straightened out. The insurance company told me they would send out a glass company between noon and five that same day to replace the window, but when five o'clock rolled around, and no glass company in sight, I gave them another call. APPARENTLY, when I said TODAY!!!!! they heard, um, tomorrow is ok, I can leave a completely vulnerable car on the street overnight, no problem. They said they would send the glass people out to my work first thing in the morning to replace it. The plot thickens. The next morning, I got a call saying that oops, they don't have the right part yet, it has to be ordered from Columbus, can it wait til tomorrow? This morning, I found that some other asshole had taken advantage of the car's lack of window, had gotten in and gone through all our stuff AGAIN. I had taken out all of the CD books we had in there when it first happened; however, I forgot to clean out the console. So they made off with like, five CDs, most of them crap. But still, I am full of ire! How many times are we going to we screwed over before it finally gets fixed!? I hate people. | | Friday, January 12th, 2007 | | 3:11 pm |

This is it...
Well folks, I am almost officially employed; I just went down there today to fill out all the forms and stuff! Of course, as soon as I called them to accept the position, I finally got an email from one of the other libraries I applied to. They wanted me to take their grammar and current events screening test, which would perhaps precede a formal interview. As much as I would like a full time job (and this one was), I think the job I took will be much better for my career in the long run. At least, I hope. So anyhoo, I start on Thursday. Woot for paying off student loans! | | Friday, January 5th, 2007 | | 10:18 am |
I survived my first ever job interview! Hurray! It was for an Assistant Librarian position at a smallish public library about five miles away from Pittsburgh. It is in this really cute historic building that looks vaguely like a castle, which I think is neat. Unfortunately it is only part-time, but if I end up getting the job I won't complain! It is really hard to find any sort of librarian job around here because the library school keeps churning out new librarians who all want a job nearby. Anyhoo, I had a few "d'oh" moments during the interview, but all in all it went well for my first time. I should know if I got it or not pretty soon, because they want to fill the position pretty much immediately. If I do get it, I will be a little sad, because if by some miracle the historical society in philly wants to interview me, I will have to say no:( | | Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007 | | 5:59 pm |
I got an interview, I got an interview, I got an interview! Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Lord, I haven't a thing to wear, and it is tomorrow! | | Thursday, December 21st, 2006 | | 10:58 am |
oh dear oh dear
So I recently applied for a librarian job a a biblical university, thinking, well, I am a librarian and a Christian, so all will be well, right? Wrong. It is a protestant institution, and they just emailed me to tell me to look at their doctrinal statement to see if I am in compliance with it. There was actually a list of beliefs of which they "disapprove", and I had to mark each one that I believed in. It sort of implied that I couldn't be hired if I marked anything. Too bad one of the most fundamental Catholic doctrines was on that list. I have a stinking suspicion they are going to reject me because I am a Catholic. Sheesh. | | Sunday, December 17th, 2006 | | 4:22 pm |
I am so pissed right now. I woke up this morning (I was unpleasantly awoken an hour before I planned by a phone call), and discovered we have no water in our apartment. No sink, no toilet, and most importantly, no shower. I had to go to church all gross and nasty, not having showered or even washed my face or brushed my teeth. It turns out they are tearing up the street in front of our building, doing God knows what, and as of now, there is STILL no water. How long do they think I can go? Honestly!!!!! All the other tenants made a mass exodus to go to someplace where there is modern plumbing, but unfortunately I don't have any friends who are in town to mooch off of. Nate and I are thinking of possibly moving to Philadelphia next year, as there are WAY more library jobs there, and there is a bitching job opportunity there right now. The job title is "Genealogical Librarian", it is basically the same stuff I did with my internship over the summer (which I loved) and it pays $10,000 more than any jobs do here. So naturally I am in the process of submitting my resume. I even bought that really expensive resume paper so as to make a really good impression:) Nate applied to the University of Pennsylvania which is in Philadelphia, and he knows some math people there, so it could be very fun. Oo, I am also excited because, now that school is officially over, I have started to read "An Assembly Such as This", which is, of course, Pride & Prejudice told from Darcy's point of view. Mmmmm. Juicy. Current Mood: pissed offCurrent Music: christmas tunes | | Thursday, December 14th, 2006 | | 11:51 am |
Whew
Well, I have officially survived the semester. Now, whether I have survived the semester AND earned my master's is yet to be seen. All I have left to do is wait for my grades, and I can't have anything less than a B. If I have to retake a class, especially my management class, I will be super pissed! Now I am free to do all the stuff I have been completely ignoring for the last three months such as fun reading ( I have been stuck on the same book for about six weeks), doing the dishes (they are starting to get a little gross), and maybe even go outdoors occasionally. Oh joy! I still have to find a stupid job; Nate has suggested moving to where there are better opportunities (since he has just finished his master's and can go to a different school to do his doctorate if he wants), but I really like Pittsburgh and don't want to leave. So I will just have to up my search intensity. I applied for a reference librarian job at the local public library, and they emailed me the other day to tell me they wouldn' t formally interview me until I have taken a test on things like current events, spelling, grammar, literature, blah blah blah. I think this is a bit odd, but oh well. Hopefully it will be mostly on the current events and literature, because as we all know I cannot spell for crap:) Current Mood: relievedCurrent Music: I am listening to Jane Eyre on cd! | | Tuesday, December 5th, 2006 | | 4:53 pm |
Two classes down, three to go! Unfortunately, I have saved the most unpleasant final project for last, and now my brain has completely checked out. Without my brain I am wholly incapable of finishing it! Ack! A week from today, it will all be over! Well, my professor thinks there is going to be class next Thursday, but since the final project gets handed in THIS Thursday, I don't see the reason for going. Perhaps I will just show up drunk, because I am bound and determined to have done that once before I graduate. My graduation ceremony is on Friday, so I had better get crackin'. I think it is kind of silly they have the ceremony before the end of the semester. After all, I might not pass my required classes, and then they will have given me free cake for no reason. Ha ha ha ha. Suckers. | | Thursday, November 16th, 2006 | | 3:06 pm |
I am officially in zombie mode. This may be a combination of educational-related stresses, but it also might be because a huge cat was demanding I share my little pillow with her all last night. Very distracting to the sleep process! In her defense, it was thunderstorming out, and if I were a small animal I would like to share a pillow with a weary masters student too. I was such a mess this morning I stole Nate's keys! I thought they were mine, even though the only similarity is the same keychain (the contents are very dissimilar). So while he has my keys and can get in the apartment, he doesn't have the key to his office. Whoops. Maybe his office mates will let him in. I have five resumes out there, some of them for more than three weeks, and so far no replies. WTF? Don't they know I need money? Oh, and, I made the grievous mistake of telling Nate he could watch the Pitt-WVU game on tv tonight, completely forgetting about Greys Anatomy. Poop. Oh well, I guess I should be writing papers anyway. | | Tuesday, November 7th, 2006 | | 11:07 am |
I totally wish I was curled up on the couch watching reruns of Law & Order right now. Iam totally wiped out. I haven't been sleeping well for a while, because a) I can't fall asleep because I am obsessing about final projects and b) I wake up in the middle of the night for apparently the sole purpose of continuing to obsess about final projects. Oh well, four weeks and counting!:) Luckily I am virtually finished with my Theological Librarianship project, which consisted of building a website with resources about women writers during the middle ages. This project was actually kind of fun, and I am sad to be done with it because it means I now have to concentrate on less interesting and way more stressful things, like writing a 20-page paper for my Archives class and writing a grant proposal for my management class, which by the way I haven't even started! In other news, I am super pissed at ABC for taking LOST off the air for 4 months. Now I have nothing to look forward to during this last tough month! They can all go straight to hell and think about what they have done. | | 10:51 am |

Wonderful moolah
At the beginning of the semester, I decided to apply for Pennsylvania resident tuition rates, since I actually moved here for Nate and not for school, plus we are planning on staying here a while. I thought this pretty much fulfilled the requirements, so I was shocked when they denied my claim. I then filed an appeal and asked to appear before the Appeals Committee to plead my case, but I wasn't really expecting a different decision. So I focused all my efforts and worrying on coming up with $18,000 for my out-of-state tuition. I thought when I got the interveiw with Dorrance publishing that I was saved, but they called me Friday morning to tell me that they needed someone full-time right away, which I can't do because of classes. So no job. Naturally I was freaking out. Then, later that day I got an email from the Appeals Committee to tell me they had "reconsidered" my claim and that they had decided to grant me resident status. No need to show up to the committe meeting or anything! Just like that, half-off tuition! So we are actually getting money BACK this semester since we had already paid the bulk of it. AWESOME! I kinda wish they had looked it over thoroughly the first time, it would have saved me a lot of agonizing...but oh well. Now I still have to find a job but there is MUCH less pressure. My mom and Dana are coming to visit in a couple weeks, which is pretty exciting. They wanted to stay at our apartment, but that is a hugely bad idea since it is a rather small apartment (not to mention hopelessly dirty) and while we have an inflatable mattress, Rousseau (who turns out to be an exceptionally neurotic cat) would jump on them and yowl in the middle of the night. Besides, there is a hotel literally right down the street. Anyhoo, I am excited because I can take them to the Natural History Museum and a bunch of other Pittsburgh-y fun stuff. Woo. oh poo
Well, the publishing company called me again this morning to tell me since I couldn't start full time until the end of December they don't want to hire me. But they are going to keep my resume incase anything else opens up next year. Shit. Back to the job search. But they didnt pay enough anyway. | | Thursday, October 19th, 2006 | | 9:47 am |
Holy crap
So last night I submitted a resume to Dorrance Publishing Co. via a anew fangled internet thingy. There was a position for "Author Representative Assistant", pretty entry level but lots of opportunities for upward mobility. So anyhoo, this morning at work I got a call from them, and they want to interview me on Monday!!!! I will be just like Bridget Jones!!!!! The only downside is there were some other jobs I wanted to apply for, better-paying jobs actually, but I dont know if I am qualified or even if I will get an interview. So do I hold out and wait for something better or do I take the Bridget Jones job? They want to fill the position pretty promptly, and I already have a job and full time school anyway. What to do what to do. Sigh. |
